3 Key Picks for Friday Night’s AFL Round 16

PlayON round 16

AFL Round 16 will commence on Friday night with Hawthorn taking on Collingwood at the MCG. Both teams will be desperate to bounce back from Round 15 losses, which should make for some great viewing. Catch Friday night’s match from 7:50pm (AEST).

Hawthorn will be hoping to put an end to a four-match losing streak that has their finals aspirations in serious doubt. They come into this AFL fixture off a heartbreaking six-point defeat to the Eagles in really trying conditions at the MCG in Round 15.

Collingwood’s iffy form finally caught up with them last weekend when they were destroyed by North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. The Magpies were on the backfoot all day and never looked like troubling an inspired Kangaroos outfit. They remain in second position on the ladder despite the loss but will need to get back to their best sooner rather than later.

PlayON have a great range of tournaments on offer for this Friday night clash with over $1,000 up for grabs across all of their contests. Check out our best daily fantasy tips for Hawthorn vs Collingwood below.

Gun for hire – Adam Treloar ($15.8m)

There are quite a few premium midfielders in this slate and you probably can’t go wrong with selecting most of them in your line-up. In saying that, we still see Adam Treloar as being the best of a very good bunch.

He’s had another incredible year and is sure to be right up there on Brownlow night. Treloar is averaging 114 fantasy points per game this season and has scored 105+ points in nine of his last 10 matches. He’s posted 124, 128, and 129 in his last three and will likely go large again on Friday night.

Player to avoid – Brodie Grundy ($17.6m)

Had to change the heading this week from ‘dud to avoid’ to ‘player to avoid’, because labelling Grundy a dud really didn’t sit well with us. You still may think advising against picking Grundy is ludicrous, but hear us out…

Grundy has had another stellar year on the park, which has translated really well to fantasy scoring where he’s averaging 122 points per AFL fixture. However, he comes up against a strong Hawthorn ruck duo in McEvoy and Ceglar who have conceded the fourth least fantasy points to rucks this season. Grundy has failed to hit the 100 mark four times this season, we’re predicting this will be number five.

Point of difference – Jordan Roughead ($7.8m)

Another big call here, but if our prediction of Grundy having a quieter game this weekend is true, then you’re going to want to be on the Roughead bandwagon. He comes in at a really nice price of $7.8m, which is nearly a whopping $10m cheaper than Grundy.

This is another high-risk high-reward type of play where we’re counting on our season-long data to continue on its trend. The Hawks have conceded the most points to opposition defenders this season, which is a trend that has remained steady in recent weeks. If the weather holds up, and by all accounts it should, then Roughead will find himself with a lot more of the ball than usual and prove to be a great value selection for your line-up and allow you to spend big in other positions.
