AFL Round 17 kicks off on Friday night with West Coast hosting Collingwood at Optus Stadium in Perth. This Grand Final rematch will begin at 8:10pm AEST.
West Coast seems to have hit their straps since their bye, winning all three matches post-break. Last weekend was perhaps their most impressive win, defeating the Dockers by a whopping 91 points in the Derby. The Eagles currently sit in second spot on the ladder and are just one win behind the Cats.
Collingwood’s form is quite the contrast compared to their opponents here. The Magpies got off to a hot start in 2019 but have recently found themselves in a bit of a form slump. Last weekend it was the Hawks who got the better of them by four points in front of a packed crowd at the MCG.
PlayON have a great range of tournaments on offer for this Friday night clash with over $700 up for grabs across all of their contests. Check out our best daily fantasy tips for West Coast vs Collingwood below.
Gun for hire – Jack Redden ($13.9m)
With so many premium midfielders in this slate, we believe one of the guys that could potentially get overlooked is Jack Redden. Amazingly, Redden is the ninth most expensive option in the midfield despite being $13.9m. His low ownership and big upside could make him a really valuable pick.
The stats also suggest Redden is a solid play on Friday night. He’s averaging 93.1 fantasy points per game this season and has had 3x 120+ scores already. Further, Redden averages five more points at Optus Stadium than he does when he travels interstate.
Player to avoid – Brodie Grundy ($17.6m)
We labelled Grundy as a player to avoid last Friday night and it turned out to be a good decision. He only scored 100, which is 20 points down on his season average of 120. Turning our attention to this round and we believe it’s another week where you should save your pennies in the ruck position.
Grundy comes up against a West Coast ruck unit that has conceded the second least amount of points to opposition ruckman over the past five games. Their 69 per player over that period has a lot to do with the return of superstar Nic Naitanui. While we do expect Grundy to score more than 69, he won’t be anywhere near his 120 season average.
Point of difference – Jamie Cripps ($10.6m)
A player that we believe could prove to be a home run play on Friday night is Eagles small forward Jamie Cripps. He’s one of those guys that benefits from his team being up and about and many believe the Eagles will be the better team here.
Much like Redden, Cripps plays his best footy at Optus Stadium and struggles a bit when he hits the road. In fact, Cripps nearly averages 10 more points when playing at home this season. We suspect he’ll be of low ownership in a slate that boasts plenty of star players, which makes him worth a spot in your team at just $10.6m.
