AFL Picks: Essendon v. Hawthorn

afl picks round 13

Two old rivals of the AFL will add another chapter to their storied history on Friday night as Essendon take on Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium from 7.50pm.

Both teams should come into the contest fresh after having their respective bye weeks in Round 12. The Bombers were 41 point winners over the Blues in their last clash and will be looking to extend their winning streak to two games on Friday night.

The Hawks suffered a tough loss in Brisbane in Round 11 and will be hoping to bounce back at Marvel Stadium on Friday night. The Hawks led for the majority of the game against the Lions but were ultimately overrun in the final quarter.

PlayON have some fantastic tournaments on offer for the Friday night clash including a $300 guaranteed prize pool for just $11 entry fee. Check out our best daily fantasy tips for the Friday night clash below.

Gun for hire – Zach Merrett ($16.7m)

After a slow start to the season, Merrett has been on an absolute tear over the past few months. The gun midfielder hasn’t scored under scored under 100 since Round 3 and has scored 136, 125, 117 and 102 in his last four weeks.

Merrett also has a dominant record against the Hawks. He racked up 41 touches and 134 fantasy points when the two teams met last year and in averages 108 fantasy points in six career games against the Hawks.

Dud to avoid – David Zaharakis ($13.4m)

With the arrival of new recruit, Dylan Shiel, Zaharakis has taken a back seat in the Bombers midfield. He averages just 89 fantasy points this season and has scored over 100 points in just three games. Zaharakis had just 25 touches and scored 83 points against Carlton in Round 11.

Zaharakis had just 21 touches and scored 62 points when the two sides met in Round 20 last season and only averages just over 85 points per game in 11 career clashes against the Hawks.

Point of difference – Kaiden Brand ($7.2m)

The young defender comes in for just his fourth game this season and is a dirt cheap price. Hasn’t set the world on fire this season in terms of fantasy scores with just a 39, 32 and 53 to his name so far, however, for the price, Brand offers you to upgrade in other positions.

One of the best scores of his fantasy careers came last season in Round 20 against the Bombers when Brand had 15 disposals, eight marks and a tackle for 68 total fantasy points. Should be a good cheap option this Friday night.

Check back tomorrow for our weekend preview for Round 13. In the meantime, be sure to join a contest and lock in your lineups.

Good luck!
