The AFL has absolutely nailed the opener to Round 12, with Port Adelaide playing host to Richmond. The Tigers have started their premiership defence strongly, with just two losses through their opening 11 games. The Power started well but have slipped slightly in recent weeks, as it still seems they are struggling to find a balance with all the cooks they have in their proverbial kitchen.
The Adelaide Oval will be absolutely overflowing with raucous Port Adelaide fans and I expect this one will be a classic.
Let’s get into the game’s fantasy plays.
Gun: Jared Polec ($14.3m)
Never thought Jared Polec would be featuring in this category but he has absolutely deserved it. His 95 average puts him in the upper echelon of fantasy options and this game is perfectly suited for him. There will be plenty of chance for Polec to pin back the ears and stretch out those long legs. Port will need him at his running best if they are to upset the Tigers.
Dud: Travis Boak ($14m)
Travis Boak has surprised me with his form this year, finding a way to remain relevant in a team chock-a-block with stars. But, as evident by last week’s 57, he sometimes shows his age and against the wrong matchup he can register low scores, despite the 85 average. I think this is a bad matchup. With Richmond’s backline featuring Bachar Houli, Brandon Ellis and the irresistible Alex Rance, there’s enough there to push me away from Boak.
Point of Difference: Paddy Ryder ($12m)
The All-Australian ruckman is still shaking off the cobwebs after injury derailed the start of his season, but I feel like he is ready to explode into last year’s form. As far as rucks go, he’s miles behind Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn in terms of output at the moment, but he has the ability to match them any week and Toby Nankervis’ ambition to get forward could allow Ryder more impact and emphasis to push forward himself.
