Premier League Gameweek 37: Champs and Chumps

Mark Noble (16), Andy Carroll (9) and Dimitri Payet of West Ham United (27) celebrate victory after the Barclays Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester United at the Boleyn Ground on May 10, 2016 in London, England. West Ham United are playing their last ever home match at the Boleyn Ground after their 112 year stay at the stadium. The Hammers will move to the Olympic Stadium for the 2016-17 season.

As with every week Daily Fantasy Focus picks three stars and three shams from the previous Fantasy Premier League Gameweek. Dimitri Payet heads up the list in Gameweek 37, while Joel Robles is at the other end of the spectrum.

Champs

Dimitri Payet (West Ham)

PlayON Price: £11.1m

PlayON Points: 4095

Upton Park/Boleyn Ground had it’s (lengthy) send off on Tuesday night and it was fitting that this season’s ultimate entertainer, Dimitri Payet, was the one to close out the night “the West Ham way”.

The Hammers ran out 3-2 winners over the other United (Manchester) with a late goal from Winston Reid, but it was the aforementioned Payet who hooked it onto his head from one of his devastating free-kicks. It was the Frenchman’s second assist of the evening in a trademark man of the match display. The non-Leicester player of the season in our book.

Lamine Kone (Sunderland)

PlayON Price: £6.4m

PlayON Points: 3845 pts

He was on his way to becoming a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light, but Lamine Kone made himself into a certified deity to the Sunderland faithful on Wednesday evening.

The man-mountain centre-half barrelled up the pitch twice to throw his weight around and hammer the ball into the Everton net on route to a crucial, status-saving 3-0 victory over Everton. His defending wasn’t too shabby either.

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

PlayON Price: £10.4m

PlayON Points: 3250

Yet another player to torture Everton and effectively end Roberto Martinez’ tenure at the club, Jamie Vardy was absolutely relishing the game in Gameweek 37 – so much so that he visibly taunted Joel Robles as he stuck it in the net for his second goal.

He could have had a hat-trick if not for a missed penalty but the point remains that there was just no let up from Vardy or Leicester despite a previous week of heavy celebration and success. Still in the hunt for the Premier League golden boot – one behind Harry Kane on 24 – expect Vardy to be as combative and competitive as always against Stoke this weekend.

Chumps

Allan Nyom (Watford)

PlayON Price: £6.7m

PlayON Points: -375

When you operate as a functioning – or in this case malfunctioning – component of a defence that ships four to a Norwich City side that have struggled for goals all season, questions have to be raised.

In this case, was Allan Nyom the worst player in the league in Gameweek 37? No. Was he the worst in PlayON terms? Yes. Very much so. The full-back claimed a whopping -375 points against Norwich and runs out as this week’s leading Chump.

Joel Robles (Everton)

PlayON Price: £6.8m

PlayON Points: 1250

With Martinez now out of the picture, attentions at Goodison should turn to the goalkeeping positions. Joel Robles turned in two dire performances in two games, shipping a total of six goals in total to Leicester and Sunderland.

The goalkeeper oddly celebrated Vardy’s penalty miss as if he had actually saved it himself and won his side a match and then was in no man’s land for Sunderland’s opener on Wednesday night. Not a player for this level.

John Terry (Chelsea)

PlayON Price: £7.8m

PlayON Points: 0

The Chelsea captain left the field distraught against Sunderland in Gameweek 37, a fitting result to a moment of characteristic JT brainlessness. The 35 year old put in two extremely needless rash challenges in the dying embers of the game against Sunderland in Gameweek 37 and received his marching orders – sealing the game for the Black Cats.

He’ll  now miss his Stamford Bridge send off on the final day, but will he get his kit on to soak up the acclaim regardless? He has history in this department.
