The dust has barely settled on the World Cup and we’re ready to go with the new Premier League season. Having the distraction of a major international tournament has meant the break has felt a lot shorter, but also means there’s been less time to take stock of some of the player and manager movements that have happened in the off-season.
Kicking off the new season on Friday sees Leicester travel to Man United without Riyad Mahrez, who’s gone to the blue side of Manchester. The Foxes will be hoping fellow Algerian Rachid Ghezzal can fill the hole left, but he’ll have to increase his goal output to do so.
United have spent big money on Fred, but weren’t able to lure Harry Maguire away from their opponents. Mourinho has been complaining about a lack of investment so far, but United have a solid squad and should be comfortable winners against a side they haven’t lost two in the last five meetings.
Let’s take a look at high- and low-priced options for your daily fantasy lineups.
The obvious guns sit in the colours of the home side, in the form of Lukaku (£14.9m) and Sanchez (£14.5m). For me, the better pick is in the Belgian here, although neither are a must have at the price. Lukaku scored 16 in his first season at the Red Devils, but that return is well down on his 25 at Everton the season before. Sanchez managed just 2 goals following a mid-season switch, but they do say form is temporary and class more lasting. He has had the summer off as well.
The surprising pick here is the divisive figure of Phil Jones (£7.8m), who averaged 1370 last year. That’s 50 more than Sanchez and ten less than Lukaku, but for half the price. Does he get a look in with Bailly likely back though? It’s a gamble.
Another gamble I’m more willing to take is on Vicente Iborra (£6.9m) who averages over 1100 at a bargain daily fantasy price. If he can chip in more than the three goals he picked up last season from defensive midfield, and stays fit, he should be great value until his price increases.
That’s all for the Friday preview. Stay tuned for picks for the rest of the Gameweek 1 action, but in the meantime be sure to get your lineups in!
