There’s a new title sponsor in Riviera this week. Daily Fantasy Focus looks at whether we’ll have a new champion as well.
One of the oldest events on tour may have a new name, but the players are in familiar surroundings this week for what could be the most popular and competitive “regular” event on tour. This might be the strongest field of the season so far, as the world’s best ramp up their preparations for the Masters.
Riviera Country Club is a very different challenge to Pebble Beach last week, with narrow tree lined fairways and unforgiving rough. The greens are also small and extremely challenging to find from the thick stuff.
If as is often the case we get rain, this rough becomes even more penal and challenging. One would think driving accuracy would be key this week, but Bubba Watson having won the event twice in the last three years suggests otherwise.
Players To Watch
Dustin Johnson ($21.8m): Dustin has been the bridesmaid for the last several years here, but his form means he’s due a win. The 2014 and 2015 runner up finished third last week at Pebble.
Bubba Watson ($19.9m): Watson has won twice in the last three years at Riviera, earning him a place on this list. His form this year is poor.
Charles Howell ($15.4m): Howell has been one of the best performers this season, finishing 2nd and 12th in his last two events. He’s also a former winner of the event, having defeated Phil Mickelson in 2007.
Jason Kokrak ($12.8m): Last year’s runner up finished with a bogey free 66 at Pebble for a top twenty five finish. Hitting form at just the right time.
Sung Kang ($6.8m): We picked him last week and are keeping the faith despite a missed cut. He finished last week with a 65 and was tied for 8th here last year.
