Review of the biggest talking points from Gameweek 23’s Premier League action. Sergio Aguero shone again, Manchester United are in disarray and Dele Ali is the best bargain in Fantasy Premier League.
Sergio Aguero reclaims the iron throne
Four goals in two games proves that Sergio Aguero is back as the undisputed king of Premier League strikers and the number one must own player in fantasy football. Nobody can compare with the Argentinian forward on this kind of form, even in a year when many strikers are scoring at an incredible pace.
Aguero’s goals weren’t enough for City to win away at West Ham, but they have catapulted managers who brought him back into their fantasy sides up their leaderboards. It would take a brave man to decide they can do without him for the rest of the season.
Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side reach a new low
A two week patch of goals, excitement and the return to form of Wayne Rooney has proven to be a false dawn for Manchester United as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Southampton for the second consecutive year.
Never even in the worst days of David Moyes was the crowd at Old Trafford as hostile to their team. Both players and coaches appear paralysed by uncertainty and at the moment it’s hard to see things getting any better. Injuries have sapped United of their solid defense, leaving us with nothing worth holding from a fantasy perspective and making Old Trafford games must miss viewing for the discerning football watcher.
Spurs star Dele Ali is one of the finds of the season
With ten minutes left on Saturday it appeared as though Spurs might be held to a draw against London neighbours Palace – a result that would have represented a huge missed opportunity for prospective title contenders. Then Dele Ali changed the game with one of the goals of the season – a sublime piece of skill to control, swivel and fire a rocket shot past Wayne Hennessey.
Ali’s growth over the season has been remarkable, with both player and coach, Mauricio Pochettino deserving a huge amount of credit. As a result, the youngster has become a key cog in Spurs’ side and possibly the best value for money option in fantasy football this season.
